DUI Process in New Jersey – What to do after a drunk driving conviction

If you’ve been convicted of a DUI (drunk driving offense) in New Jersey, your license may be suspended. Before regaining driving privileges, you may need to complete the following:

  1. Any required suspension time
  2. Ignition Interlock Device
  3. Pay all fines and fees (drunk driving fund, Neighborhood Services Fund, Alcohol Education and Rehabilitation Fund)
  4. Alcohol screening and evaluation

In addition, you will need to pay a restoration fee of $100 at a New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) center or by mail to New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (P.O. Box 140, Trenton, NJ 08650-0140).

You will receive your Notice of Restoration once all requirements have been met.

Ignition interlock devices in New Jersey

In New Jersey, you may be required to install an ignition interlock device after a refusal, a repeat offense and a first-time offense with a BAC of .15 or greater. A judge has the ability to order an interlock outside of these requirements.
