OVI Process in Ohio – What to do after a drunk driving conviction

If you’ve been convicted of an OVI (drunk driving offense) in Ohio, you may need to obtain an Interlock License from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) before you’re allowed to drive again. In addition, you may need to complete the following:

  1. Ignition Interlock Device
  2. Driver Intervention Program
  3. Alcohol Screenings
  4. Proof of financial responsibility (auto insurance)

You will need to pay all outstanding fines and fees, including a reinstatement fee. In addition, you may need to pass a driving skills and knowledge test, if required.

Ignition interlock devices in Ohio

In Ohio, you will likely be required to install an ignition interlock device after a second or consecutive drunk driving offense. After a first OVI offense, you may be able to install an interlock device for a reduction in your license suspension period.
